Bibbona was built on a low hill and was already known in ancient times before it became an Etruscan settlement.
It still preserves the typical layout of an old inhabited fortress.
In the old town, where characteristic narrow alleys run into little medieval squares, the lovely 11th century church
of San Ilario is of particular interest. Santa Maria della Pietà, a renaissance church built in the shape of a Greek cross at the end of the 15th century, is situated right at the entrance to the town.
The medieval Old Town Hall symbolises the town’s rich civic history, which is preserved in the Council’s historical archives.
Emotional events such as the Procession and the Cask "Palio", which hearken back to folklore and historical traditions,
are provided a truly striking setting in the village.
