Situated on a
hill overlooking the
sea and the surrounding
countryside, Campiglia
Marittima is one of
the loveliest old hill towns on
the Costa degli Etruschi.
Here in heart of the Val di
Cornia where ancient
traditions live on, remains
bearing witness to the
Etruscan, Roman and
Medieval civilizations can be
found. The VII-VIII B.C. Val
Fucinaia furnaces and the
San Silvestro Archaeo-
Mineral Park (a splendid
open-air museum) tell the
fascinating story of how metal
was worked from Etruscan
times on.
The hot springs at
Venturina, already known in
Etruscan and Roman times,
are today a well equipped
spa facility for mental and
physical well being.
The Costa degli Etruschi
Wine Route - home of the
prestigious Val di Cornia DOC
wines - winds through olive
groves, vineyards and
Mediterranean scrub, where
farms and producers of the
excellent local extra-virgin
olive oil and other delicious
specialties can be found.
Historical pageants, concerts
and theatrical productions in
the charming Teatro dei
Concordi, art, culture and
folklore make up a rich
programme of big and small
events held throughout the
year.
Historical Day takes place
during May, and the whole
town comes alive with
scenes of everyday life,
characters in costume, old
forgotten trades and ancient
crafts.
It's a great festival - originally
the "Calendimaggio" held to
celebrate the arrival of
spring.
During August, the events
and shows of the "ABC
Festival APRITI BORGO"
take place in the historic
town's most enchanting
corners, as well as a
medieval feast with original,
olden-day dishes.
Inviting trails through the hills
and woods can be enjoyed
on foot or by bike.
