Set between
the blue sea of the Costa
degli Etruschi and the
green Tuscan
countryside, Cecina,
EU's "Blue Flag", and
Cecina Mare are popular
with tourists from all
around the world for their
history and environment.
Cecina's origins go back
to antiquity, with recent
studies and finds dating
it to the Neolithic age.
Etruscan, Roman and
other ancient artifacts are
preserved in the
Guerrazzi Archeological
Museum, housed in the
eighteenth century Villa
La Cinquantina, where
exhibitions are often held.
The 12 rooms contain
displays of locally-found
jewellery, bronze objects,
ceramics and furnishings
as well as exceptional
finds on loan from
the Florence and Volterra
Etruscan museums.
Foundations, mosaics,
floors and a still-intact
underground cistern can
be seen at the remains
of the San Vincenzino
Roman villa, a residential
complex dating back
to the period between
the 1st century BC and
the 5th century AD.
Cecina is also a modern,
lively town, well-known
for its shops offering
a wide range of quality
products.
Families and young
people alike meet and
shop in the traffic-free
main street and square.
Restaurants, pubs,
trattorias and wine bars
offer delicious fish and
game dishes.
Theatrical performances
are many and varied, and
sports can be enjoyed
in the numerous modern
facilities, including a
well-equipped bowling
court, the Water Park
and a large riding centre.
Events, folklore shows,
fairs and festivals are
held throughout the year,
and a weekly market
animates the streets of
the town centre.
