The CEL (Summer Committee of Livorno)- theatre of Livorno was recognised as a traditional theatre in 1967.
It organises a program of theatrical performances rich in different genres and themes throughout the year.
CEL's activity is in harmony with its function to support the world of theatre. Lyric opera is one of its strong points.
It offers a series of performances applauded in the best Italian theatres as well as abroad, that are rooted in the national history and culture.
It is enough to consider the pieces of music by Pietro Mascagni, a renowned musician born in Livorno, to which a series of publications have been dedicated.
The musical offerings by CEL give a wide varied choice across different genres.
The productive commitment of CEL also includes drama, with folk-theatre and works by famous artists from Livorno like Ernesto Rossi,
theatre for children and dance performances by the best ballet companies. Awaiting the re-opening of the historical theatre "Goldoni", performances are currently
set in different theatres, including "La Goldonetta", which was inaugurated on 6 March 1999.
