note: The itinerary departure point is reached by following the road that runs down from Sassetta to Pian delle Vigne in the direction of Frassine - Monterotondo Marittimo. The route is mainly on dirt roads along Sassetta Trekking trail No. 1, and the second part on a fairly indistinct trail where it is essential to follow the directions as there are no signs.
From the car park at La Cerreta holiday farm, you go down to the dirt road which climbs up on your left towards the Casetta Fiorentina knoll: the climb ends after 900 metres at a crossroads with an equipped picnic area. Go left downhill 1.2km to the intersection at Podere I Colli: the road bends to the right (do not take the trail that goes straight on towards the hill), and goes downhill for 400m before climbing back up the hill where trails 1, 2 and 3 cross. Take trail No. 1, turning left towards Podere La Pieve (a wonderful panoramic view point) and descending for 3.5km to the Lodano river valley. Along the route you pass nearby the old Quercialte farm, which is an ideal spot to stop for a picnic. After passing a stretch of high tension power lines you come to the small Sant’Anna artificial lake near the boarding house of the same name. Keeping to the left, you skirt the lake and then the stream. As the crow flies, the provincial road to Sassetta is very near. The road becomes a track and signs are not very visible: be careful not to take tracks or trails that climb up the hill to the left and keep to the valley floor. Once past the first obvious clearing, you carry on through dense woods and in the next two clearings, keep to the side of the river until you reach the path. After a short distance you come to a fork: follow the signs for route No. 1 on the left. You now climb up for 1.3km passing the Moricce farmhouse, and then descend towards Podere I Colli, coming to the intersection (which you met on the way out) where you turn right and take the stony, uneven dirt road lined with trees that goes down to Pian delle Vigne. When you reach an old bridge you turn left and continue on the flat towards Livorno farm, at the next crossroads (1km) you turn left towards Podere La Cerreta which is now in view.
