Ardenza - Livorno
This spot is suitable for windsurfing during periods of low pressure with southerly and northerly winds of various intensity; waves generated by sirocco, libeccio and ponente winds.
The warm south-easterly wind is the sirocco, generated by Atlantic depressions crossing over Europe. At the Tre Ponti this wind occurs sideshore, from the left, and as a result the two or three metre waves generated by the rocky sea floor represent a perfect starting point on the way out to sea and a steep downward slope on which to perform a variety of manoeuvres on the way back in. These weather and sea conditions guarantee a day of enjoyable and trouble-free windsurfing.
When the south-westerly libeccio blows, the sea is rough, the waves powerful, breaking on the rocks and the beach and often over the road. In these conditions surfers must be well-trained and capable of assessing their own limitations, taking great care at all times: just one mistake can take you onto the rocks. On the other hand, these waves represent a continuous starting point for breathtakingly high jumps.
These are onshore conditions, with lefthand walls suitable for jumps, but not for surfing the waves. The westerly (ponente) wind has the same characteristics as the libeccio, except that it makes it possible to jump both left and right hand walls.
With the swell that occurs after a stormy sea, the rocky sea bed at the Tre Ponti makes it an ideal place for surfing the medium-sized waves of intermediate difficulty.

facilities: The Circolo Windsurf Tre Ponti is housed in a brick building which guarantees shelter from the wind and winter temperatures. It offers changing facilities, showers, first aid, rescue service, and also organises events. Close to the club there is also a large free car park and a bar.
school: the widsurf- school of Livorno holds courses onshore and offshore for beginners and advanced surfes, for adults and children. Furthermore it is possible to store and rent equipment.

how to get there:
from the north: Leave the A12 motorway (Genova- Rosignano) at the "Livorno" exit. Take the bypass, and leave this at the "Livorno Sud" exit. Follow signs for the sea, then turn left at Barriera Margherita, near the Accademia Navale, and head south for about 3 km. I Tre Ponti is on the right, straight after ‘La Rotonda’ in Ardenza.
from the south: Approach on the SS1 Aurelia road and at the end of the Romito panoramic road follow the coast road through Antignano. Continue along the coast for about 4 km and look for I Tre Ponti on the left.
