the wine route
Welcome to one of the most beautiful routes of our peninsula!
The ancient charm of mediaeval villages, green spaces still untouched and the soft atmosphere scented with
old wine cellars and authentic flavours follow one another along this magical route which unfolds right in
the heart of the Costa degli Etruschi.
In the 15th century these hills were already covered with vineyards, but a true wine culture started
round about the 60s, when the Marquis Mario Incisa della Rocchetta created the Sassicaia wine, one of the
most appreciated Cabernets in the world.
The other glorious Cabernet of this noble land is Ornellaia, Ludovico Antinori’s precious creation.
At a short distance from the cypresses celebrated by Carducci, on the round hills of Bolgheri, Sassicaia
and Ornellaia wines are the very apex of a series of high-quality products involving three D.O.C. areas:
Montescudaio, Bolgheri and Val di Cornia.
Its name is the “wine route”, but it could also be
the “oil route” or more generally “the route of authentic tastes”, pervaded by
Mediterranean scents: from honey to cheese, from bread cooked on wood to locally- produced liqueurs and
biological fruit and vegetables.
