quercianella
quercianella
Quercianella is an enchanting resort with quiet charm set amid pinewoods and Mediterranean scrub overlooking a crystal- clear sea on the rocky coast south of Livorno.

Villas and welcoming hotels stand along the tamarisk and oleander- lined streets of this peaceful, hospitable little town.

The bathing establishments are equipped with modern facilities for holidays and water sports. The sea here is ideal for underwater sports and snorkeling enthusiasts, while surfing is popular all year round, and the little harbour offers safe mooring for boats.

il cristo
Quercianella - Livorno

il cristo Quercianella - Livorno This easy and fascinating dive owes its name to a statue on the sea bed at 14 metres. The sea bed lying in front of the Rogiolo inlet is characterised by channels of rock and Mediterranean tapeweed. Once you leave the ridge where the statue is found, there are many areas to explore among the Mediterranean tapeweed and the low rockfaces. This dive is ideal for teaching purposes both at beginner and advanced levels (see note).

route:

Start from the shore in front of the restaurant, and swim on the surface along the ridge. You can drop down at any time, but if you begin your descent at about 200 metres from the shore you will be able to reach the statue under water, passing through the rocky channels and the Mediterranean tapeweed. When you are in line with the first window of the restaurant (from the mountain), set the compass for 270° and swim for about 10/15 minutes across the rocky channels and Mediterranean tapeweed. This will bring you directly to the statue, at 14 metres. If instead you prefer to descend directly to the Christ statue, keep a watch for a large bush situated on the ridge. When you come across this bush you will find yourself directly above the statue. Once you have seen the statue, you can head for 180° and continue the dive, drifting along the low rockfaces and patches of Mediterranean tapeweed. Along the way there is a concrete crib scene. From here, make a wide u-turn to the right and return to the Christ statue. Head for 60° and back to the starting point.
