Le Forbici - Castiglioncello

"Rocky Point" is one of the most beautiful sites on this coast. It is socalled because of its similarity to the famous surf spot in Hawaii. The beach consists of medium-sized cobbles. It is not easy to find because it is hidden by the vegetation. It is not very busy either in summer or winter because of its distance from town.

Surfing can be done at "Rocky Point" with a diminishing swell or a stormy sea, as long as the sea is not too rough, as this could be dangerous. The breaking waves create two peaks: one in the centre of the bay with a fast, powerful and especially long right wave; the other on the outermost point of the bay where, as well as being long and powerful, the wave also creates a lineup with a wide tube.

type of sport: surfing

level of difficulty: intermediate-advanced

how to get there:

from the north: Leave the A12 motorway (Genova-Rosignano) at the "Livorno" exit. Take the SS1 Aurelia bypass and follow to the end, then take the panoramic ‘Romito’ road. Go past Quercianella, turn right at Chioma and take the SP39. The spot is situated between Fortullino and Le Forbici.

from the south: Leave the SS1 Aurelia road at Castiglioncello, follow signs for the sea until you come to the SP39. Follow this road in the direction of Livorno. The spot is a few km further down this road, between Le Forbici and Fortullino.
