Sassetta is a
charming little historic
village on the Costa
degli Etruschi, set
among woods and
stands of chestnut
trees on a hilltop
overlooking the sea.
This Medieval
stronghold still
contains reminders of
its past, such as the
Ramirez di Montalvo
family's Palazzo.
Situated behind the
palazzo is St.
Andrew's Church,
which houses a 15th
century baptismal font,
a 16th-century painting
of the Virgin and Child
with Saints and a rock
crystal and gold
crucifix (15th-16th
century).
The woods are full of
hiking trails and paths
for walks, cycling and
horseback riding, and
numerous farms
offering holiday
accommodation and
local produce can be
found here too.
Sassetta's delicious,
wholesome food is
celebrated at the
autumn fests.
Re-enactments of
ancient customs
celebrate and keep
the town's traditions
alive.
