The ‘ Trofeo Accademia Navale e Città di Livorno’ (‘Naval Academy and City of Livorno Trophy’), now known as the TAN, began as the " Regata del Centenario" (‘Centenary Regatta’) in 1981 on theoccasion of the Naval Academy centenary.
This sailing event, which has taken place every year since 1984, is currently the most important in the Mediterranean, and takes place in Livorno between the end of April and the first few days of May.
During that week, Livorno, a city already rich with maritime and sailing traditions, becomes a world capital of sailing, attracting thousands of teams competing in the various categories and on the numerous regatta routes.
Not only is the TAN an important sporting event, but it also represents a period when sailing fans from all over the world unite to live this experience together. The Trophy, supported for many years by the Alto Patronato del Presidente della Repubblica, is distinguished by the range of international teams taking part, and its success is also linked to associated events which undoubtedly attract large numbers, as well as the colourful "sailing village" featuring a huge number of exhibitors connected with the nautical world.
The Trophy is also distinguished by its attention to the social sphere and to the disabled, with specifically designed boats competing in sailing events dedicated to this category.
